I have a query with the raven guard stratagem and how you were talking about it. You could only put 1/2 your army into the shadows as you need to have half your army on the board at the end of the deployment phase.

In addition when does the roll for seize actually occur. Is it not after deployment but before the first battle round. Therefore you would know who is going first before you deploy.

Alright. I know that you guys think that the primaris are balls right now. But I wonder how a Raven Guard list with them might work out. The inceptors with T5 and -1 to hit them might be decent yeah? Also, if people move in the 12″ range they should be getting the -1 with everything except small arms fire. Then you can drop two of the floating turtles in the back line with some lascannons which will also be -1 to hit. I’ll have to pick up my codex and take a look before I decide completely though.

With the tactical objectives issue – Our house rule is that you may discard it if you could not have scored it at the beginning of the game; however if you could have but no longer can (for example your one psyker has died) then you have to keep it or expend the command points. It fixes the totally non-fluffy objectives, while still giving a sense of command getting things wrong some of the time.

The live action Guyvers with Mark Hamill were the shit when I was a kid.

Thanks for the detailed overview guys. I have been playing Raven Guard for about 15 years now…way before they had special rules. Raven Guard are so strong now….it sucks. Because now, all those @$$hats that never played them before will have them (not you Chef….:)). I will never get the cool “thumbs up” anymore because everyone and their dog will be playing them. I guess I will play more Tau now….sigh….

What about armies that only have Elite choices? Would you give exceptions for Inq and Sisters of Silence to the Batalion rule?

I was thinking about the comment that the Chapter Master stratagem may not be so fluffy, because I’ve had similar thoughts. But then it’s just the name of the rule, and chapter masters have it because of exceptional leadership, so you could just pretend that the person you apply the rule to is not the actual chapter master, but just a rising marine with great leadership? I think that’s what I might end up doing.

Constructive criticism: Chef is very excitable and enthusiastic which unfortunately can easily set him off on a rant which can become quite unfocused, especially when some random on the internet has said something he disagrees with.

I got a solution to the Whitescars/UltraMarines Chapter Tactic problem:

White scars get the fall back and still shoot.

Ultramarines can pick one of the other Chapter Tactics to use that turn while also having the +1 LD. It might be overpowered but it’s fluffy since UM are the “jack of all trades” type army so they get a jack of all trades Tactic.

Could have edited out the whole rant about white scars bikes since it got corrected! Excellent content as usual

Thunder Hammer captain with champion of humanity, negates the -1 to hit and wounds literally everything on 2 or 3’s I like the sound of that

So with the salamander chapter tactics, if I shoot with my devestator squad, and use the re-roll to hit and wound. And after that use the armorium cherub to fire a weapon again, I can then re-roll to hit and to wound, because the tactics says “each time a unit shoots” ?

I think I disagree regarding the Ultramarines CT, in most cases if your squads are in combat it’s either because they want to be there so aren’t going to be very good at shooting anyway, or because an enemy assault got to them and so would probably do a lot of damage. If there’s only 1 or 2 marines per squad left to fall back and shoot at -1 to hit, I don’t really care too much. Dreadnaughts will love it though. For me it’s the Raven Guard and Salamanders that have come out as the real winners there.

I think the FAQ has at least started to handle the Stormraven ridiculousness. Now, all they have to do, is kill BobbyG and they immediately lose the game due to no boots on the ground. Thank GW for actually paying attention to how people are breaking their game and responding!

thanks Lawrence, this is very welcome. I’ll steal some tactics of yours going into the manchester tournament, if you don’t mind. Outspider the spider!

I almost feel like a jerk now that I decided to make my new army Ultramarines given that they are the clear winner in the codex. I can’t wait to go in to my local shop for the first time as a newer player and have people roll their eyes at me that I will be running Guilliman and the Primaris… I honestly think that Ultra Primaris w/ Guilliman will trounce almost any list that doesn’t feature a ton of high HP units that would require lascannon or melta to deal with. I believe that the Repulsor is the only… Read more »

Brilliant suggestions on how to balance competitive play. Always thought there should be a ratio of super powerful stuff to troops. It would also be a better showcase of each faction too if we got to see a min of 2 HQ and 3 Troops
