Bone you think you had a bad time with Darkstrider? TRY COLLECTING AN ENTIRE TWO THOUSAND POINTS LIST OF DEATH KORPS OF KRIEG SIR.

actually don’t try it. it’s hell.

Hey guys, don’t know if Chef will see this but have you considered not taking Wraiths? I’ve pretty much dropped them in my “competitive” Necron lists because, as this game kind of demonstrates, they’re very situational. You spend a premium for a 3+ invun, yet so many of the top armies don’t care about that; whether it’s being able to bypass it with mortal wounds, being able to reduce or remove it with things like Death Hex or Jinx or coming up against armies that have high rate of fire weapons that also do 2-3 damage so they can just… Read more »

Chef is a visionary, PriMarneus and Vigilus is the beginning of campaign / unit rules expansion. Brilliant commentary TTT. 🙂

Don’t worry Chef – There is no way for Necrons to beat a Tau list like that. Let’s hope for a bit of help in CA. The mass S5 shooting, insane overwatch and then the 2 damage shots from riptides that trades multi-wound damage for a drone. It’s a matchup where necrons should be tough and able to weather the fire, but they’re not like their fluff. For Necrons to win this matchup, something would have to go really wrong for the Tau player. It’s the drones trading multi-wound damage for a single drone life that ruins it. Riptides are… Read more »

Are Firesight Marksman not your bag B-Bone? Good BS, low points, markerlight love, and the character keyword.

Bone, when taking a charge to your firewarrior line, remember to use photon grenades! You have incredible chances of landing one hit which makes these nasty combat units hurt a lot less. Remember that fireblades/darkstrider can also use them. It’ll increase your effectiveness against assaults by loads! Only watching the wraiths charge in T1 just now so good luck! haha

Many of the necron points are true. I would have liked to see vail of darkness used and perhaps a deceiver as you then have the mobility to get units where they need to be. In this instance that could have been both units of immortals.I use the additional AP dynasty. So potentially four units and two characters up close turn 1. Worth a try.

Really fun bat rep. I’d love to see Chef do well with Necrons at the GT. After CA2018 drops you’ll probably be in a much better position. Lawrence as well, with Grey Knights (though being a hipster I’m sure if GKs suddenly become powerful he’ll switch to whatever else is the worst garbage in the game)

very interesting game, I’m surprised that Chef does not use the Necron vehicles that have living metal rule.. against knights and anti-tank?

As for “soup” the easiest way of getting round it is to make Tournaments “mono-codex” or (as for home made vehicles) make allied armies for “open” and “narrative” play only…

concerning Knights:
If you want a real incoherence, what use are the IKs in the Admec codex?
And if Matched play bans soup armies, then Freeblades could become more logical with a rule which allows them to be used in all Imperial Lists…

food for thought…

I don’t get to play against much Tau, so this has been a great lesson. Thanks Bone for the info, and better luck next time Chef!

So excited Chef is back!! I’m hoping there’s some rants coming up!!

Also though, is there an alliance open tournament report in the works??

I hate the idea of formations as it makes some units that dont fit in are auto excludes. If every unit is pointed correctly then codexes arent at much of a disadvantage at all by simply having less units. You can see with Orks the codex writing is getting better and better. I think the only units that should be overcosted are ones that give casual players feel badsies even if they are pointed correctly at competitive play. Noone seems to be complaining yet that runtherds are basically ork commisars and grots are 3 point conscripts. I worry we might… Read more »

Great points at the end of game guys. We don’t usually do allies in my playgroup, but we do test them when we play a tournament. The power creep between the two is huge though. That being said I much prefer this list Bone with the coldstars. I still think you should take one yvahra though.

I hadn’t watched the full video when I commented so I hadn’t seen your little chat about the future of the game. My thoughts are that they should follow the warmachine/hordes model where instead of ‘re releasing codexes they release a campaign book that updates the fluff and at the same time releases new rules and models for several factions. For example they could release one based on a world where death guard, orks and iron hands were battling it out and release three new models / units for each of those factions. I think it’s quite a neat way… Read more »

Really enjoyable bat rep that guys. I particularly liked seeing bone vs chef and in General id like to see you guys mix up the player match ups more often (beard vs chef, Stig vs spider?) I much prefer the flexibility of this list B Bone. I was just curious l, whenever you play multiple riptides you always overcharge the weapons on them all and then branch one to allow it the better invulnerable. My instinct would be (and I haven’t played tau since 5th) to keep that 3++ on them all and take the drop in offensive output. I’d… Read more »

Hey Bone! I was wondering why you said making the Ethereal your warlord is not the competitive choice. What advantages does having the Cadre being your warlord over an Ethereal?

Hey B Bone! Fellow Tau player here! I know you mentioned it in a previous video and it came up here but if you have that one point left over you can spend it on equalizers for your ethereal. Obviously it won’t be game breaking and likely won’t even come up at all, but if you want it to be wysiwyg and you have room for that one extra point I don’t see why not!

I’m fine with soup being a thing, I believe in full on competitive play that it adds a level of difficulty that is welcome to most players in that realm. However I feel that people who choose to play single faction armies should be rewarded with some type of beneficial buff. Whether it be +1cp per detachment or something along those lines to compensate for the difference.

Nice battle,

Its unbelievable how much more survivability it adds when drones are put out of line of sight. It forces you to target the tougher model, and the almost guaranteed passes off all the shots. Plus it discourages using anti infant firepower because of the massive reduction of wounds due to needing 5’s.

Brilliant Bat rep!. The extended discussion at the end was really enjoyable content and much better than the usual few minutes wrap up. I would really enjoy seeing more of that general round table ‘state of the game’ type talk even if it was separate to a battle report. Great stuff.

I agree on the return of formations. But I think it’ll just be CP benefits. It’s actually written in black and white by GW in the big rule book.

The BRB literally says detachments can be faction-specific. It’s there!

I’d see it work like this for Crons for example, would get a destroyer cult say, 1-3 units of and 1 +2CP or similar.

As a necron player, there is pretty much only one list that can do it right now at 2k, 3 x DDAs, 3×9 Tomb blades, destroyers, scarabs. That is it. The only list that can work competitively. After playing repeatedly with my Necrons, I have come round to thinking that points just won’t fix it. The codex is just not well thought out enough to work properly and has deep, deep structural issues that even a repointing won’t fix. Lack of mobility and short range compounding poor survivability. Lack of aura buffs. Buffs that need to be undertaken prior to… Read more »

Just wondering about Sept rules…especially as it came up at the start. Say my Tau are from Fal’shia (which doesnt have its own sept rules in the codex). So they have their own colour scheme. My sept keyword is “Fal’shia” correct? In the codex it says i can pick a sept tenant that best suits. So i pick the Bork’an one. This means I keep the sept keyword “Fal’shia” but i get “Superior Craftsmanship” (6″ additional range). Correct? It also means i can use the “strategies” of this army – which i assume is the Bork’an stratagem and warlord trait.… Read more »

Hi guys, really enjoy the reports and hate to nitpick but could you try and tone down the “oh that’s a bad roll” on every dice roll? It sometimes sounds a bit too much like the Mitchell and Webb snooker sketch: oh that’s a bad miss!

As for your thoughts on balancing mono faction vs allied armies. I know there are specific bonuses you get for having a detachment be pure (like GKs get +1 to casts, custodes get +1 invuln, etc). What about having army wide bonuses if your entire *army* shares the appropriate army keyword (sharing things like ultramarines, sa’cea, evil suns, etc and *not* imperium/chaos/aeldari). Obviously you’d have to think about what those bonuses are, but could this be a potential fix? This way you can still soup if you want, but it also gives mono faction armies a much needed leg up
