lil tip for spending those last couple of points to get to 2000 w/ tau if ur like me and lose sleep over such trifles – just give however many spare points worth (2 here for example) of fire warriors some pulse pistols at 1 point each. Mostly wont do a damn thing but hey it doesn’t hurt and why not if you’re not gonna spend them another way! and its an easy petty little option across most any build (unless youve already done it of course) 🙂

Hey Bone I know you’re a fan of the T’au sept rules but if manoeuvrability is an issue maybe try the Vior’la sept, means the whole army can advance and shoot. Also grants you access to Aun’Shi, the upgraded ethereal character. Granted you lose the benefit of the T’au sept which is a blow but maybe try it out for a game? Loving the work lads.

So, am I missing something incredibly obvious? When it comes to selecting your artefacts or whatever it says that it has to be from your Warlord’s faction (admittedly, I don’t have codex: Imperial Knights or Grey Knights, but I do have Daemons, Heretic Astartes, Craftworld Eldar, Blood Angels, Tyranids, Death Guard and 1k Sons, and they all say the same sort of thing), so if your warlord is your Knight, you can’t spend that pre-game strategem on getting relics for your Grey Knights because while you can take more relics, it doesn’t say you can ignore the (sometimes) bolded ruleface… Read more »

The pre show banter had me in tears laughing. This is why I come here. Also I really liked how you all chose less played armies and did these series of lead up games to the tournament talking about the tweaks in your lists as you went, made for really interesting content.

hate to be the bearer of bad news but your interceptors got FAQ’d on 19/11/18 but depending on when this was filmed it may not have been relevant

Also Bone, stop taking large drone units with lights. Firesight marksmen are WAY better since they can’t be targeted and can sit on objectives or block off deepstrikers and hit much better. All your drones should be broken down into 2 man gun drone units. This makes armies waste fire when they can target them, but it also makes targeting a 2 drone unit impossible most of the time. This makes it so savior protocols are nearly always a thing. Taking larger units of 7 like you did made it so he just needs an angle on 1 damned drone… Read more »

Some errors in this one mates. Heavy stubbers are, well, heavy, so moving and firing infers a -1 to hit on armigers. Also bone, you get to make your riptides saves before passing off failures to a drone. Read savior protocols carefully. Biggest error was tactic wise, Bone should have ignored the knight and deleted the grey knights. He easily could have swept the table of the interceptors. All he needs to do is run another unit in front of the knights path to movement block him and it’s good game. Without the storm bolters he isn’t going to do… Read more »

Is it just something going wrong on my end or do the battle reports not auto resume anymore?

Hey hey Lawrence. Did your Crusader not have the Headman’s Mask. In 1st round of shooting v the Riptide zhould his Ghermal Cannon not ha e done 2 extra damage?

Question if I may @benjaminbonar:disqus – in the batrep you don’t overwatch on 5s with a t’au sept unit because there wasn’t another t’au sept unit within 6″. Why don’t you get the buff? have you got a reference to a rules clarification for this. I checked the rule wording a while ago and compared it to similar rules, like Space Marine Captain’s re-roll 1s and the wording is basically the same. So since a captain re-rolls their own 1s because they are within 6″ of themselves, it would be the same for t’au sept units, unless I’ve missed a… Read more »

Spider’s been spying on me, this is very similar to a list I’ve been building, except mine runs with Black Templars Battalion instead of the GK/guards. Idea being a saturation of high danger threats that your opponent has to choose which ti kill (Warglaives, Knight, Land Raider Crusader full of nasties). Very cool!

Great Match! I agree with you Bones, if you had just a bit more luck I think you would have had a nice chance to table near the end! I’m not sure I would have put the Branching Nova Charge on the 2 health Riptide instead of your 12 health Riptide. Against an army like Grey Knights who can smite through invulns I would be nervous it would be wasted. Not that I expected the explosion to happen! I noticed in the last two tau games when you have one more marker drone protecting a riptide and the riptide has… Read more »

Great game guys. The spider, having the spider’s luck at the end. I thought the slice of power was a thing for a minute at the beginning. It looked like you sliced straight through the the fist. Loving the list Bone. Did you ever try the ytide off screen? I would live to know how it faired.

Mr. Bone,
When the interceptors charge the Riptide in GK turn 3 You could have overwatched with the Riptide’s smart missiles as that weapon does not need LOS I believe.

Another great battle report, although i was really routing for B-Bone and the Tau, i cant help finding myself really wanting to see Lawrence wiff a full report with the dice, sorry man haha
keep up the awesome work

Given that this is a tactica I noticed a cheeky thing you could have done Bone! When the interceptors and warglaive charged the pathfinders in turn 1, the interceptors swung first and whiffed, only killing one. You could have removed the one NOT wrapped up by the interceptors thereby forcing the warglaive to pile in towards the one that was wrapped up, but be >1″ from it due to the interceptors body-blocking and thus not be able to attack.. could have prevented your fire warriors from getting tied up.

Great battle report, really enjoyed this Tactica because it wasn’t so Obvious who was going to win after 1 turn. I hope you guys did well at the Alliance Open GT! A stream was mentioned at the intro of the video. I looked for it through Google and their Facebook but couldn’t find anything. I had hoped to be able to rewatch the matches as I don’t know the results yet. Would be nice to see Lawrence playing live on camera.

40k is a simple game. Two guys throw dice for two hours and, at the end, the Spider always wins.

I may have missed it, but what was your warlord trait B to the bone? I’m assuming it was Through Unity Devastation? But I didn’t see it used to my recollection? Could have chipped through those knights or interceptors a little quicker.

Matt Ross
Matt Ross

In the first turn of shooting for Bone, wouldn’t the wounded Riptide be hitting on 3s
still because the markerlights allows him to ignore the penalty to moving and shooting heavy weapons?

Chris Hughes
Chris Hughes

on the tactics side….Spider’s list is a ‘play the mission and box you in’ type. Would a better approach have not been to focus on everything EXCEPT the Ferryman on that first round of shooting? Wipe the marines guard with the volume shots, then hit some of the heavier stuff into the Helverins. Then move out and go for the mission. The Ferryman can only do so much with his guns.

BobbyG
BobbyG

Lawrence, you forgot to add *Soup* after “Grey Knight”, you cheeky 😉

Peter Hillard
Peter Hillard

Just a heads up but it’s modifiers after reroll. This means with focus fire up and command and control a riptide will wound in 5s and 6s and then 4s on the reroll. A similar thing happens with markerlights and kauyon.

It’s important, because a 4+ rerolling is mathematically better, so your wounding better than you should be.

Gregor
Gregor

Great game and really cool unique army from the Spider!

Just a small tip / question: Why did you use take aim on your Guardsman? First Rank Fire Second Rank fire doubles your shots instead of rerolling misses?

Heath Hooper
Heath Hooper

I did a fist pump when Lawrence said House Krast in the list review. I’ve been pushing this for a while… 2 warglaives and a gallant, rerolling all hits on 1st turn of combat, and using the controlled aggression to explode hits, are the freakin -truth-.

CreativeName

Not a huge fan of tournament batreps but this one was really great. Hope you guys did well

The stubber is heavy weapon. Armiger hits on 4+ if it moves. Not a big deal but you tend to forget it. Good BR! Keep them coming!

mr bone please consider looking at the xv9 DBBC on forge world. 16 shots per unit more effective then a riptide cost wise i field 3 and a yvhara as a sponge while the rest of my army does some work i believe i had a rvarna or a riptide also, but please mate consider the XV9s i believe you could use them very well with your style

Aaron Berezowski
Aaron Berezowski

bone your riptide turn one would have hit on 3s not 4s with the full marker lights they ignore moving i know you know this lol but don’t forget you must win for the greater good!!

The Grey Knight codex has been FAQ’d on 19/11/2018, so the intercessors ‘fly’ movement is restricted to the movement phase in line with the other units =)

Alan Bishop

Love the tactica. Not sure if someone has already said this but I got bad news about the grey knight interceptors. GW quietly release a faq meaning they can only move over units and terrain in the movement phase now.

Phil Stein
Phil Stein

Good match, guys. Thanks a bunch for showcasing in tactica the more serious tournament builds you guys are doing. Really gives new guys like me an idea on what I’d be dealing with in a more serious setting, and how they operate.

Mike Jello-Sky

Always good matches, fellas. I thought the Tau would wipe you off the table, Spider. Bone, I think we need to look at photon grenades for when those rapid fire units get into range, 2+ from the Cadre or 4+ from the fire warriors. Makes the infantry units hit with a -1. tough call, but wow, those storm bolters hurt! I am watching this way too early in the morning, lol did you use Kayoun at all? I don’t remember seeing it. Either way, great fight! MArker lights are SO handy eh? Can’t wait for the next one. Would love… Read more »

The TT store should sell wound and CP trackers (something more unique and flavorful than just dice used for it)! Felt like an appropriate place to put that feedback 😉 lol

Can’t wait to dig in to this Batrep! Keep up the good work!

epic battle rep guys lots of nasty stuff on the table just wondering if you guys are going to death before dishonour in feb?

Brian Ellis
Brian Ellis

Great bat rep guys, really good card draws for Lawrence. I don’t know why ITC isn’t used more often in Europe, scoring points through maelstrom cards is just so random and impossible to control.

Come to think of it, kinda hard to see, but was Bone removing shield drones without taking the 5+ FNP for them after transfering wounds on a 2+ to them? Or were they just marker drones?

Thomas Monti

Go get em you glorious fishmen!!! Be all that you can be, Bone!!

Luke Johnson

When you have an army at 1998 points any reason you wouldn’t give a Shas’ui or two some pistols for 1 point a piece? Sure its not great but its better than nothing.

Totally digging the blade of power though. Bahaha. All it needed was a toga to complete it.

Spider man, spider man, rolls a 6 whenever he can.

Andrew Davis

This was a great game from both sides, I love the way that the imperium army moves up and ties everything up with the guardsmen just holding the ground and the counter punch of the Tau was brutal, keep up the good work guys! ?

Maxwell Koch

With rolls like that I can only believe its a Christmas miracle that the Spider doesn’t play nurgle demons with any regularity… Nothing would die when he rolls that well

BallsMcGee
BallsMcGee

I think it gets missed a few times, but with enough markerlights you ignore moving and shooting heavy weapons I believe. So the Riptide that jumped up on the building would have hit the knight on 3s not 4s.
