I cannot emphasize enough how much I appreciate Lawrence’s defense of continuing the game in the face of Bone’s forlorn hope. Still watching, but it was a perfect demonstration of why you shouldn’t give up! Anything can happen, and if you keep a cool head and a keen eye you can sometimes whip up a miracle!

why was Bone measuring from the base of the Hemlock and not the wing?

Its been said I believe already, but I think a massive trick for this one is leveraging wave serpents charging into units of warriors and immortals. On turn 3 I believe a wave serpent could have move blocked most of the necrons from moving to the left on the camera perspective, as well as stopped the warriors from shooting in the next turn. Also I believe due to the wording of serpent shield it says you can just use it in the shooting phase, so you don’t need to declare it when you shoot, so you can see how you… Read more »

Awesome Tactica! Got alot out of this one. Would love to see an Imperium Tactica based around the Obsidian Dragons, especially with the new ITC missions. My Primaris Raptors are taking to the field in two GTs this month, I don’t feel my army is very competitive but it does have some teeth. But they look cool!

Keep up the awesome content guys.

If you had the models, what is the nastiest list do you think could be competivitive with necrons?

Thank you for a great tactica report. I honestly threw in the towel and almost stopped watching but the way lawrence explained the necessary play was just too notch. I learned A LOT as a newish player. On a side note, bone needs the mustache again. There I said it. Anyway, I like the idea of voting on future bat reps. I also love the sound of a CW neutral eldar force (like the not salamanders). Hope to see some bat reps for us CW eldar players with some less used units. But…Please dont ynnari…dont sell your souls! Might cry… Read more »

Definitely an excellent game and a big display of sportsmanship. I salute you both, gentlemen. It’s been a very interesting and didactic tactical report. I have found myself playing a lot choosing – to the astonishment and gasping of my opponents – to go second. I play demons, Tzeentch and Slaanesh, and even though the “prepared positions” stratagem does naught for my troops, I have the speed and the tactical advantage when playing the objectives. I have found quite useful to deploy far back, out of range of the majority of the weapons range, and play the countercharge. I must… Read more »

Mindwar targets only Characters, so you could kill the warlord with it.
Also Wave serpent did not shoot its overwatch when Overlord tried to charge in the end. This was the second time you could kill him.
Concerning that you managed to do it, you could get +1 point and end up in a draw. 🙂

You guys REALLY need to start taking down notes, you usually loose victory points or command points trace cause you don’t write it down! It’s super simple!

Awesome game, as usual, perfect quality

Sometimes I feel you guys get way to caught up with maxing out the rule of three. For sure redundancy was the best way to play in previous editions when less units were viable in each army and when stratagems and buffs were not a thing, it also made more sense because split fire wasn’t possible but in 8th I actually see spam lists doing worse as you get to the top in competitive play. Outside troops obviously. You want a list that is harder to crack not easier. Spamming a select few units just sets you up to lose… Read more »

In Bones turn three he could have sealed the game by using his serpents to tag the necron infantry in assault. Could have easily plugged the middle and even with a bit of luck survived overwatch on the flank shutting down the warriors and one unit of immortals. But most importantly blocking everyone back so they couldn’t shoot the guardians on the multiball. He should have been using the autarch and the other characters to sit objectives, they can’t be shot so long as the serpents are out front trying to tag stuff. Can’t be afraid to assault even with… Read more »

Really well done job on this one fellas. I feel this is the standard they should all strive for. I like it when your both talking through your strategy and turns rather then just playing normally with hard core lists. This is exactly how I play practice games for tournaments with my brother. You gain so much more from the sharing of ideas and tricks.

Great job! Thanks so much for the game as usual, top notch!

What a wonderful game! I saw a mistake that Lawrence did at 2:12 when he consolidates with his necrons warriors to the guardian, this unit didn’t charge or had a unit at 1 um so, it wasn’t possible to active it to do close combat.
Thank you for that amazing tactica! I would like to see more like these one

I really like these tactical reports I learn a lot from them 🙂 I have a question though. This came up already in several battle reports and it is played differently as how I interprete the rules and how I have been told it is in tournaments, so I wonder if it was a mistake or it is a rule that is played differently on different tournament: At 2.05.30 Lawrence says he would not choose to move his unit back into close combat if Bone did not consolidate (very good advice to to do not forget about consolidation btw), however… Read more »

Fabulous Tactica – was a strange viewing after turn one with Spiders masterclass, if I was Bone it would be very easy to lose heart as effectively you can feel your playing Spiders tactics not your own. But that is the point of a Tactica is to recognise where certain tactics are required especially where if requires a change in focus. So good job people 🙂 But the debrief at the end was very insightful, I am not an experienced or let alone a good one. But I try hard not to give up at anything I play, even if… Read more »

There hasnt been a good death guard battle or tactica in a while. Would love to see how the 10 blightlord build does in a tactica

Wow, those Necrons are tough little buggers!! Bone, bless you, I think I’d have been eating the table edge in frustration!

Would love to see the Necrons vs the Death Guard – see who can outlast who! 🙂

Without watching past deployment I can tell now that B-Bone huge mistake not giving the first turn to Lawrence, prolly gamebreaking mistake. I think Lawrence doing backflips in his mind about that desision. Now we see if im right =)

Subscriber but have never commented before! firstly thank you guys for producing content that a man who hasn’t purchased a miniature in 20 years can still enjoy. I have watched 80-90% of your videos over the last year and I took something more from this game than the normal reports or tacticas and it purely came down to the conversation you had around believing in the strategy- (which made it work). Bone salute to you having to play a tactical genius in the spider! Having played strategy games against people myself who can see 10 moves ahead from the first… Read more »

Been a subscriber for about a year or so now and i have to say this is probably my favourite bat rep to date. Seeing the tactical acumen applied like that after turn one has inspired me to actually start playing the game instead of watching others have all the fun.

Appreciate all your work guys!

Just watching the lists right now but I had a thought: maybe it would be cool to just pull lists right out of Best Coast Pairings app of tournament winners? Maybe that way you can get the no questions grossest lists out there. Just an idea! On to the battle!

An absolute master class in playing from behind and the attitude you need to shrug off tilt. Shows that you can always have a close game if you can let things go that are out of your hands. A quick thanks to all of you, because of how informative you guys are I went from knowing nothing about how to play, too being relatively competent before I had even played my first game. The info you put out there is unmatched by any other of the 40k content creators, as well as the quality of content, quality of cast and… Read more »

I really, really liked that spontaneous spider-master class. If I may suggest something for future tactica games (I hope I don´t step on anybodies’ toes). It might be interesting to see maybe smaller points games with players such as Beard or Sanger, let them play out their respective first turns, and then have the spider helping each in turn with tactica advice such as this. Real situations. Another option would be setting up scenarios, myabe ones you remember from a tournament you were in, an analyzing the situation from the P.O.V. of both sides. I think as far as tactica… Read more »

This is my favourite tactica to date, nail biting close, excellent sportmanship shown by both players, Bone really kept his cool after his turn and it was just a excllent informative game. Thanks again TTT for producing SUCH good content, total bosses.

This was a great tactica, really enjoying watching and learning. I would really like a special video / dragon / vox cast that specifically addresses command point management. I don’t always understand why you guys choose re-rolls. Like on turn one the reroll to save a single wound on the destroyer: that seemed to me a bit of a waste as it would still require immense bad luck to not have the unit wiped. Maybe you were trying to make the odds as much in favour of it surviving as possible? But are there not strats that would have served… Read more »

How did the destroyers deepstrike at 46mins. It’s turn 1???

Martin Pfeifer
Martin Pfeifer

imo giving the veil of darkness to a cryptek is much nastier. at the start of the turn a nearby overlord gives MWBD to a unit of destroyers. the cryptek then proceeds to jump with the destroyers somewhere needed (preferably into cover). play the destroyer strat and all of the sudden you have 6 destroyers, hitting on 2s, rerolling to hit, rerolling to wound, with a 2+ save and a 5+ invuln. and if you opponent doesn’t manage to kill them (cause of line of sight or something) they get back up on 4s cause of the cryptek with full… Read more »

What this game shows is how stupidly strong Craftworlds are, and that’s that. Necron got all the luck they could ever wish for. They absolutely dominated where and when they needed. But, quite literally, the strength of the eldar codex crept through.

After the first turn like this the army who received the beating should not be the one who nearly tables their opponent.

But hey, Craftworlds.

I really enjoyed this, was a good show of luck can go both ways in a single game and never give up to early as you never know when you might get the perfect storm and turn the game around.

Krezzlar

Good job showing why conceding too early isn’t usually a good decision. Even if you fail to claw your way back, the exercise of trying to fight back tactically will make you a better player. 2 quick points. 1) Wave serpents are really good at charging into large blobs of shooty infantry. They’re tough enough to withstand the overwatch, shut down that infantry blob’s shooting for the next turn and can still fly away and fire. Just be careful if the opponent has enough psychic to smite your Wave Serpent to death on their psychic phase. 2) I thought that… Read more »

Just a quick on, at 38.50 you fail 3 saves from the night spinners killing on and carrying two wounds over but you forget to carry the wounds and subsequently bone doesn’t kill the unit with the hemlocks. Apart from that all good 🙂

Yann Head

very interesting game, and the advise given by spider turn one and two is what I would hope to see each time in a tactica… but then it all depends what you want tacticas to be, a normal game between two highly comprtitive armies or a game where at the start of each turn the different opptions are debated, traps are explained and set etc…. On another point, does the studio have enough Imperial Knights to do a mono-codex tactica? I am having trouble finding a list that can last 5 turns and get enough VPs to be competitive (… Read more »

Great game. Not that it mattered in this game but remember that the Necron Characters have living Metal so would be on full wounds at the end. On the debate of Dynasty choices, I still believe Sautekh is the way to go. The Sautekh strat of plus one to hit is too tasty. MWBD Tesla exploding on 4’s… filthy

Spider, is there a FAQ or something I’m missing? @ 2:12 and change you consolidate warriors that shouldn’t have been able to activate. They weren’t charging, so they shouldn’t have been able to, as they were way outside of 1″ of any enemy models. This is the second video in a row I watched where you made a pile in/consolidate move when it seems you shouldn’t have.

As you’re a way better play and very active in the tournament scene I can only assume I’m missing a FAQ or a white dwarf article or something.

Great Game guys. One thing though: Mind War has to target an enemy CHARACTER and can’t be used to clear screens, i.e. when been used it to kill two warriors. He could have used it to target the Necron Lord/overlord and maybe snipe a warlord in the deal.

I think maybe the similarity with Harlequins Mirror of Minds and the nasty GC power might be part of confusion

I’m excited to see this game, just at the start and you guys mentioned the GW finals – are we lucky enough to get a vox cast on that soon??
