Loving the additional Tactica Reports!

This was a fun game. I’m a little confused as to how many posters below seem upset about the quality of the game. It was fun and was only decided at the very end. What more do you want?

Hey Bone, wanted to offer you a bone after I saw you use Adrenaline Surge with the Swarmlord. Instead of spending three CP on that, you could’ve used 1 on Implant Attack. At the end of the fight phase, you pick a model that got wounded by a tyranid that phase and deal a single mortal wound on a 2+. It’s a thing that gets forgotten really easily, but practically exists for situations where an enemy is one wound away from being degraded or killed.

André Ferl

Hey Mr. Beard,

It would have been better to use the poison blades than the phase sword for all attacks against Bones warlord. You would have wounded him on 3s instead of 5s since you can only do 1 dmg anyway.

Doesnt the vindicare cause D6 mortal wounds when rolling 6 to wound at about 01:30:00? Or did they change that?

Quick question: Could the knight heroically intervened around minute 46?

Great job beard for your first tactica some more effective screening and target priority would of made a big difference when facing an assault army especially with the deployment you rolled

Hi Guys, great to see Beard on the Tactica Learning Curve! Couple of things to remember going forward – Krast re-rolls is only on the first turn of combat, not every turn. Knights can Heroically Intervene like any other character. This would have allowed you to move the Crusader into combat when the Genestealers charged the Helverins. Would have cleaned them up pretty quickly and allowed you to get at least 1 Helverin free imo. Likely would have swung the game quicker into your favour. Ironstorm pods. In this game and other missions where troops are important, they are great… Read more »

Fantastic game gentlemen! Congratulations Beard, GG WP. A tactica game is two competitive lists and two people trying hard to win. Mistakes in a Warhammer game *do not* disqualify it as a tactica.

This was a really informative game. As a beginner it really helps when you show in depth tactics even if that’s not the most entertaining part of your content. I think Beard would have been better served by war glaives. I’m not sold on helverins myself.

Tony Cain

Great effort chaps. Quick one for you Bone.
Having said how much you like them, there is a rule for the Malanthropes that almost never comes up (because they are never usually within 1” of an enemy unit when it is killed). It gives all units reroll 1s to hit. I was desperately willing you to remember it and get that second Malanthrope to pick off that lone Guardsman from turn 3 onwards.

Turn 2 when bone charged and wrapped the Helverins beard could of heroically intervened with his crusader into the genestealers (totally within 3″ of crusader) and would of had 12 attacks hitting on 3s re rolling ev erything for Krast then wounding on 2s.

“tactica” rofl. Good batrep. But Beard is far too gentle and kind of a creature for this nonsense.

Those On Demand Videos give me a lot of trouble. They are loading really slow and I can only watch them on low res. Nowhere else I got these problems. I have no idea how to fix it – everything else is loading fine.

Great Bat Rep and lists! Turn 1 this is where you realize the Vindicare is a complete steal for 80pts!

Schimo

Beard, you should consider using the Krast-only Relic on your Crusader. +1 Damage to ALL weapons when targeting 10+ Wounds Targets (+2 when targeting titanic) is great and will almost always outpreform endless fury. As Bone said in the beginning, a Crusader list is not nearly as CP hungry as the usual Castellan lists, and this setup really makes the Crusader hit almost as hard as the Castellan!

Interesting report, good to see some nasty lists!
Only one big comment on rules, though: Mr Bone, the Kraken trait has another (and very important) line of text after the 3 dice advance thing, “In addition, such units can Fall Back and charge in the same turn.”
This could have been used to massive advantage in many turns, to keep slaying all the guardsman and vindicares, while constantly pilining in and consolidating into the bigger targets to not get shot.
IMO this last sentence is what makes Kraken really brutal.

Almost List that im running on 2k – but i use venomthropes and 2×20 genes in kraken plus 2x exocrine and 5-6x hive guards in kronos.

Even though there was some rules issues, I quite enjoyed watching this game. I think Mr Bone you are certainly getting better and learning the way of the devourer. I am confused about Mr Beard holding more during the game, as I thought you had 2 units of Termagaunts in each building next to the objective which meant for most of the game Mr Bone had hold more when his stealers made the wrap on the Tallarn infantry? Also remember you want to be as active in as many phases of the game as possible, so technically only do the… Read more »

Beard is just playing like always, just think why not consolidate into Hive Guard? Why not daisy chain those guardsmen so that beard has to shoot them to make a move with Swarmlord? Why not target the Hive Guard with Helverins with their D3 weapons that drops HG down to 5+ save and wounds on 3+ and kills on failed save? Why not charge Vindicare into genestealers he has A5 or at least throw his blind granade? And to the more obvious things why not space your tanks so they cannot be consolidated into? Finally it took her to kill… Read more »

Hi guys love the reports as normal, wouldn’t normally post but as it’s a tactica I feel I must but please take this as constructive not as detriments. Beard you could easily have used your guard to screen across the gaps in terrain thus forcing the genestealers to charge them rather than your tanks, battle cannons on your tanks are just better all round than the plasma as no overheat and higher strength and range meaning you could of taken first turn and chipped wounds of his units before they had moved without having to deploy any different so effectively… Read more »

Thanks for the batrep guys. Fun as always.

“Fun” note for nids, you can see your advance roll before deciding to use opportunistic advance.

Also, Onslaught doesn’t allow you to advance and shoot heavy weapons. Only removes the penalty for moving and shooting with heavy OR advancing and shooting with assault weapons.

I liked the report. As others have said, it wasn’t the most hardcore tactica, but an enjoyable battle report nonetheless! I especially liked the very clear example of the wrap and trap trick on the guardsman, where you deliberately only fought with 1 genestealer to keep that unit alive. Never seen it done like this before and definitely learned a thing here, even though it didn’t seem to work very well considering they were all butchered afterwards anyway :p. I will be showing this to my friend/opponent playing Nids as well, great trick to be aware of. Beard, congrats on… Read more »

Bone, did you use four attacks for those Genestealer units when they were reduced under 10? They only get 4 whilst they have 10 or more. Great game though!

Tim Hunt

Just a heads up that no armor saves could be taken when wounded by a Culexus because of a special rule. It isn’t a weapon. May have impacted later parts of the game. Thoroughly enjoyed watching though!

interesting lists. i still dont think helverins are a good a pick as not “real” knights id have bought 2 more punishers for the points to be honest. still great to see though keep the tactica coming guys im always interested.

Rob Butcher

I thought Tactica meant we were watching strong armies using commonly deployed tactics. No screening negates this. It’s hard to learn much from this except what not to do.

Been playing with a 300+ model-list, lot of termagants and genestealers. Its really fun to play with! And no, I’m not crazy but yes my back hurts every time I play it 😀 Went 4-1 last major though… 😛

StuartFields

Pretty sure you can’t reduce the amount of Mortal wounds you take. Mortal wounds are all individual wounds rather than causing say 4 wounds on a lascannon which is then reduced by 1 to 3 wounds.

Eric Lin
Eric Lin

You don’t actually keep the advance roll from the movement phase for the Swarmlord’s Hive Commander rule. Pg177 of the rulebook, advancing in the movement phase adds a dice number to the move characteristics for the models in that unit for that movement phase. Hive commander lets you move in the shooting phase so you would have to roll again. You can however, use opportunistic advance to double the highest of 3d6 again, since its a new phase and the FAQ specifically allows you to do this.

This was savage, great work as always.
Think the only missed opportunity would of been the crusader into the genestealers wrapping the helverins…
However its super easy to say shoulda woulda coulda when you’re not there playing the game and with a totally different viewing perspective
Great work dudes, spider can we see you general a grotesque, wrack, talos list in tacticia?

No tank orders?? This was pretty hard to watch with all the missed tactics/abilities/stratagems etc. Probably should not have been been a tactica report 🙁

Sees beard in “tactica”, mentally labels this as battlerep, thoroughly enjoys the madness. After I saw bone leaving his patriarch to stand in the open vs two vindicares when there’re two massive bunkers to hide behind, and beard apparently not knowing of the advanced tactics knows as screening vs assault, I just took out the popcorn, forgot about this being a “serious tactica” and enjoyed the carnage. Wanted to put my popcorn bucket on my head, when beard charges genstealers trapping 8 guardsmen with his crusader, instead of charging the genestealrs fighting the helverins… Also, Krast only re-rolls hits in… Read more »

Beard! Charge phase round 3, you rolled an 11 on your Callidus, which using the full movement could’ve put her in a position to get the Malanthrope AND tag the Hive Guard during the Pile-ins! That’s a HUGE amount of firepower to shut down turn 4, and the chances of them killing the Culexus in the Fight Phase are pretty slim.

Todd Meilleur

Just fyi. You can use opportunistic advance again when you use the Swarmlord ability. It’s in the Tyranid faq. Can also be used on overrun strat and mind eater warlord trait. Gives you so much more opportunities to tie up units.

The positioning of those infantry squads makes me wanna cry. There’s a horde of hungry bugs swarming you Beard! Fix bayonets, form defensive lines and protect your Emperor’s most glorious war machines from these foul xenos!

Thanks for TACTICA battle report.
And, no, 1:22:25 Mr. Beard didn’t fight back with his second Armiger that turn, at least not on camera.
And why no overwatch at 1:48:30 for guards or it was off camera?

Greg Dorly
Greg Dorly

Beard, a few small things, as you bought 4 assassins, is there a reason for 2 vindicares instead of 1 or each (that would of given you 2 more cps in game,) I thought you were going to keep you last cp to gain more off the warlord, shame you didn’t kill it that turn. And lastly – you culexus can also throw its grenades when it fires its speculum. That said this was a fantastic Tactica game, especially as you two have good chemistry. Love watching stealers everywhere as I am running nearly 80 in my list. Kraken game!!!

Jay Johnston
Jay Johnston

did they remove the vindicator D6 damage on wound rolls of 6’s? or was that just missed

rsma77

I’m surprised you didn’t do allied with Genestealer Cults for maximum soup to make use of the new studio models. I feel Tyranids are already pretty gross but either a cheap battalion for cheap 5 CP or acolyte bomb to gain access to GSC Vect would make them unbearable. Haven’t seen the results of the Battle Report yet but love what you do! Keep it up chaps!

When playing Krast one of the good stratagems to use is ‘controlled aggression’. This gives you exploding hits in the fight phase on a 6, you could have done some nasty damage to those pesky nids!
