and for Methodical Destruction (Sautekh Stratagaem) ALL your units get +1 to hit vs that unit, so 2nd unit of Immortals should hit on 2+ and proc on 5+ as well

Niltag
Niltag

@1h when you wre using Tesla Immortals woth MWBD you should be hitting on 2+ and procing on 5+. Alos for Hyperlogical Strategist you roll for each CP you spend not for each Stratagem you use, so if you use 2 CP you roll2 dice on 5+ you gent one back. For Wrights you gain +1 to Reanimation Protocols from Cryptek

Jake Barratt

I vote to stick with rules as written for Maelstrom games. You have strategies and tactics while playing the game, you can use those to make sure you have the best turn you can, but it still comes down to dice (as shown in this game). Rolling for the D3 makes it more tense and interesting. Changing the rule just because you sometimes roll a one is a bit sad.

Great game guys, well done!

If you guys would like to play some real Necron list please let me know )

I’d say play with the regular rules but I’m begging you – please come up with a consistent rule for cocked dice. The number of games I’ve watched when the dice could have been on either side and you’ve just picked a random one breaks my heart. Maybe a dice tray for rolls?

I don’t know if it matters any more but I’m so in favor of taking average rolls for Maelstrom games.

So i agree to an extent, I belive that if you draw a card and your army is unable to achive it it should be discarded and redrawn, i.e. tau deny a psychic power. But if your army had the ability at one point in the game to achive it then it should be kept, i.e. deny a psychic power but all of your deny the witch models are dead, the card should be kept.

As far as the random points keep that, it keeps it fun and tense.

I’d vote – for all the reasons that you listed – that you stick to RAW, at least for regular reports and tacticas. I think there’s plenty of scope for house rules in narrative/campaign scenarios though.

Absolutely for averaging the D3s on Points.

Sorry guys Blood Angels can’t take veteran intercessors. Only indominus chapters can.

Andreas Rehn

I enjoy randomness so as far as house ruling D3 rolls I don’t really care. I’m all for redrawing cards that are impossible to achieve because it’s always fun, both playing and watching, when both players got something to fight for =)

Personally Im a noob thats come over from Blood Bowl, which I play in leagues online now. So I understand the basics (very basics) of tabletop battling. However because of that Im used to micro engagements ala BB. For me I wouldnt mind the occasional HouseRule game as long as its clearly labeled in the title and the house rule is explained each time. That way I can see the fun of some house rules (which Ive read about elsewhere) but wont be confused if I ever go to play that mission at a gameshop. Just my long winded 2-cents… Read more »

Short but great game, Spider seems to be Bone’s kryptonite as he rolls much better vs Beard and the others 😀
@Laurence, don’t go flesh tearers with the studio blood angel army. They don’t use Primaris Marines! Do Angels Encarmine or another sucsessor chapter 😉

Woops, redact my statement about the flesh tearers. Gabriel Seth doesn’t see them as blood angels because they lack the black rage. And states that the flesh tearers will only live on in name when the last normal Space Marine of the chapter dies… Also he doesn’t trust Bobby G 😅

Loved seeing the new vanguard marines in action, might be interesting to see that list with the new executioner tank in place of one of the repulsers. Good job as always guys!

Awesome as always!
As a suggestion, should have use the Ark to block charges (is it still posible with the new rules?).
The ark is pretty durable, and its gimick is not shotting but that it is BIG and mobile, take advantage of that next time and you’ll learn to love it lol.

Cheers!

Would love to see some Kill Team games when you move, is that possible? Dont have to worry about huge model counts/armies then. Im posted to kenya for a year so you guys are my only hobby fix i get out here.

keep up the gleaming work

Hey guys, as a BA player, I was super hyped when vigilus came out. I also thought about 3A Intercessors. Sadly, That detachment can only be taken by codex:spacemarines chapters :/ BA, DA and SW cannot.

Great BR as ever, Bone I feel you need a saintdom for the luck you have at times (never do a re-roll it just doesn’t work for you!) and dealing with Lawrence’s obnoxious rolling!
As for house rules I’d like to see d3 rolls always count as 2 maybe but other than that keep it as written unless you are doing a tactica for a specific style of tournament.

Would love to see some Flesh Tearers on the channel!

When playing book missions I prefer rolling the d3 for the points instead of taking the average. Furthermore, I may be in a minority but I prefer playing that you cannot discard any card unless the rules say you can, meaning no discarding simply beacuse it’s impossible for you to get. I think that the book-missions were designed with these cards in mind and promote list diversity and balance. Refined strategy also specifically allows you to take these cards out; if you house rule-it, then I would just leave all the impossible cards in my deck (to be discarded while… Read more »

Wow spider list tailoring against necrons, thats sad m8 lol j/k. I really enjoy watching your videos and just became an on demand member but that was cheeky 😂

I think you should would adopt those house rules for maelstrom, and just put a disclaimer when you go over the mission, just an overlay that you do sometimes?

Maeglin

Fun game, would love to see some marine combat units more though.

I agree with playing the rules as written. Save the alternative rules for the Tactica ITC type games.

Dusty

If my vote counts, I’d like to say that you should play games in the regular format, or use special rules for a tournaments, like ITC or ETC rules packets.

Hate to say it, but Lawrence had that repulser at 9 wounds and it took 3 mortals, yet he only dropped it to 7. It ended up on 1 wound wasting half bones armies fire at a critical juncture… Kind of wrecked this game a bit. It happens and isn’t the end of the world, but I think you guys should invest in some dial down counters since they are harder to mess up and don’t get knocked over. Still a fun game though, thanks for the battle. Would be nice to see one where Lawrence doesn’t get first turn… Read more »

Not e en started the battle-report yet, I would like to vote that we leave it like it is for maelstrom. You could do some tacticas like it but for normal games keep it basic for new players.

End necrons turn 2. Lawrence: “Bone whiffed but I could whiff next turn”. Bone: “Yeah…sure…”

Vladimir Pustilnik

I’m all for keeping the rules as written in personal matchups however, filming these games, I can see how averaging the victory points and removing unachievable cards can make the maelstrom games a-lot closer and not sometimes feel one sided.

I think a lot of people are overlooking the Vigilus special detachment for the Space Wolves in combination with the new phobos armor stuff. Now that reivers have the phobos armor keyword, it makes them interesting with the psychic powers from the phobos librarian. The detachment has a stratagem to add 1 to wound which is spicy with a large group of reivers with psychic support. Maybe not tournament level, but it could be interesting.

GhostValley

I like the normal rules for maelstrom. Wacky is what maelstrom is. And a victory or loss can always be taken with a grain of salt. But they can be tremendously fun to watch!

Shaun

Agreed stick with normal rules 😊 they may not be perfect but for the sake of clarity it’s for sure better!

Hi Lawrence, just wanted to say thanks for running the new marines and giving the repulsors a red hot go. I particularly liked how you themed the list.

Hey guys, I would love if you could try and run following list: 2000/2000 on the nose 😉 Battalion +5 CP: HQ: 1x Overlord /w Hyperphase Sword, 87 pts 1x Orikan the Diviner (6″ 5++ in shooting and melee), 115 pts Troops: 10x Immortal /w Tesla, 150 pts 10x Immortal /w Tesla, 150 pts 8x Immortal /w Tesla, 105 pts Elites: 1x C’tan Shard of the Deceiver, 225 pts 1x C’tan Shard of the Nightbringer, 180 pts Heavy Support: 2xDoomsday, 320 pts Spearhead Detachment +1 CP: HQ: 1x Lord /w hyperphase sword (6″ re-roll 1’s to wound), 68 Heavy Support:… Read more »

you guys should do whatever is more fun for you guys. You guys having fun shows in your battle reports and makes it more enjoyable to watch at least for me it’s why I’m a subscriber and I would hate to see you guys get burnt out in any way trying to play as competitive as possible all the time. You guys keep doing what you’ve been doing because it’s great content.

Necrons really need to be dropped further in points and get a way to generate more CPs easily

Altansar
Altansar

Just listening to the Necron list and I figured out why Spider doesn’t care that the WL regains d3 wounds. Bone rolling a d3 and get 1, it is inevitable just as it would be for Spider to roll a d3 and get 3.

I don’t mind painting finecast, although the details are sometimes a bit wonky, I just hate playing with it.
Here check out my awesome Cryptech model! Oh damn… he broke his staff… let’s glue that back on to his arm…. where did the arm go?

So this base here… it represents my Cryptech… I am not quite sure where the model went….

I cant wait for the new Studio, really exciting times! I would prefer stick to RAW when not playing a Tactica, it´s 40k and randomness is part of the game.

I am dying to see some Space Wolves in action. I know we are not a good army in 8th but friendly games should still be an option. FOR RUSS AND THE ALL FATHER!

Michael O'Holloran

On the subject of “average points” I agree with Ben; keep the missions and objectives as written, fine to play tactica games using tournament conventions. This hobby is big enough to be enjoyed in different formats. Personally I prefer the randomness … makes the experience more of a “game”, which to me, is what 40k is. Cheers.

AquitaineUA

From my point of view I prefer that cards which give d3 points, give you 2 instead of d3 and that a player can discard a card that is impossible to get the points.

Jeepers! I thought I was the only person that says “Cool beans” Bone”!

That was a ridiculous swing in the game. You must have the patience of a saint BBone.

Raffazza

Really enjoyed this – similar concept with this Primaris force as what am trying to recreate with Space Wolves at the moment (with different components). Think the game highlighted the issue with triple Repulsor though – so little board presence!
After the Necron’s first turn I was worried it was going to be a brutally short game – so did Lady Luck, so she decided to sort that out.

Love your work guys, keep it up.

Re missions – I think in general go rulebook unless specifically playing ITC/ETC/Tournament game. Leaves it more open to new people out there.

Chris Brothwood
Chris Brothwood

I agree with bone in this. Play as rules written. Also play enough games (as you guys do) then law of averages dictate that the rolls with average out between them. Unless you are beard. Dice hate beard. And people who shave off their beard..

Look forward to Dark Angels and the mighty Space Wolves (My first love in the hobby from the Rogue Trader days.)

Edward Sandilands

Personally I agree with Bone, slippery slope with lots of house rules. It’s a random game anyway and as long as I get to see what each army can you do I don’t really mind the resulting score. You guys make tacticas when you’re really gunning for it.

I think there are 2x Krakstorm Launchers on each Repulsor. Lawrence was shooting only one on each thus having twice as less shots.
